The 2012 Windows 8 Application - Partner of the Year Award goes to RunAtServer

Radio Canada/CBC has committed to being available on every platform in order to distribute their multimedia content to all Canadians before 2015. As part of this plan, Runatserver was approached to broaden Radio Canada’s audience for the Tou.tv web portal. The result is a three screen solution which incorporates a Windows 8 app, a Windows Phone app and a Xbox Kinect app which allows more than 10 million users in Canada access content from Tou.tv.

RunAtserver used Windows 8 as it offers a multitude of choices regarding programming models, allowing them to reuse and maximize code across all three apps. RunAtserver was also one of the first companies around the world to take advantage of the Team Foundation Server offered through Windows Azure, to ensure continuous uptime for the apps.

RunAtserver recognized the Windows 8 platform created a tremendous opportunity to offer its customers unique touch apps that users would love and took advantage of the wide range of unique features of Windows 8 to improve the user experience on its platform. The end solution used a consistent modern UI with interactive tiles that made it natural for users to go from one app to another, unique to this platform. This week during the DevTeach tradeshow in Montreal we unveiled our custom made 55” Surface table”!!

The table is our first prototype, it runs Windows 7 and offers 6 touch points. We used it during the show to showcase our Windows Phones 7 apps+ a few Silverlight and WPF apps.

But the table itself has another purpose which will be unveiled later… we are working on a very specific software, which requires quite some space, the fact is Microsoft Surface 2 was not big enough for our needs (40 inch), so we built everything from scratch, and we are proud of the result!

There is a new Microsoft Regional Director in Montreal! 
Indeed Laurent Duveau, Principal at RunAtServer has just been appointed Regional Director (RD) by Microsoft.

The Microsoft Regional Director (RD) program is a community of independent developers, architects, trainers, and other professionals who form a vital link between Microsoft and the developer community. These technical experts provide insight and informed perspectives about Microsoft software development tools and technologies. Regional Directors are not Microsoft employees, nor are they monetarily-compensated by Microsoft. They are recognized by Microsoft for their leadership and technical expertise.

There are 123 RD worldwide, RunAtServer is very proud to count one in its team!!
